// What you’re buying

The hinge is the kit.

One per door: a bracket that bolts where your factory hinge was, a two-way hinge (out a few degrees, then up), a gooseneck arm into the door and a gas strut that carries its weight. Made in the USA from domestic hardened steel. Your doors, paint and trim stay yours.

Shown: a typical VDI kit. Each car’s hinge is made for it, so the exact plate, arm, brackets and shock vary by vehicle.

The kit you buy: mounting plate, pin and hub, swing arm, door bracket, gas shock, cam stop, boltsYour car: the body apron and the doorThe factory hinge it replacesThe kit starts as its separate pieces, then goes together in the order it's fitted. The door first swings out on the vertical pin, then lifts on the round bearing hub, and the gas shock holds it up: the two-stage motion in VDI's patent (US 6,845,547). Each kit has right and left hinge assemblies, two gas shocks, M8 bolts with washers, shoulder bolts and pins (VDI install manuals); set screw #2 and nut #1 adjust where the door closes. A typical kit, drawn from VDI's Crossfire manual: the plate, arm, brackets, shock and angles differ by vehicle, and each kit is made for its car.

// Questions

Before you order

Will a kit fit my car? +

Each kit is made for one make, model and range of years, and the search above checks yours. Type your year with the model (for example “2008 Corvette”) and every kit that fits gets a green “Fits your 2008” badge. Not sure about your trim? Email us and we will confirm it before you order.

Do I have to cut or weld anything? +

Most kits bolt to the factory hinge pattern, so there is no cutting or welding and the car can go back to stock doors later. A few applications, mainly older GM trucks, need holes drilled and tapped; the product page says so when that applies.

Who installs it? +

Every kit ships with VDI’s instruction manual and comes with free tech support from Vertical Doors, Inc. A mechanically confident owner can do it; we recommend a professional installer.

What does shipping cost? +

Shipping is free within the United States. International orders ship at a $400 flat rate, shown at checkout before you pay.

Can I return it? +

Unused, uninstalled kits can be returned within 7 days of delivery with a return authorization, less a 25% restocking fee. Truck and SUV kits, special-order kits and discontinued kits are final sale; their product pages say so.

Still unsure? Email sales@verticallambodoors.com and we’ll match a kit to your year and trim.
